Ottawa Wedding Photographers | Kandid Weddings

Every year in May, the world’s largest tulip festival takes place in Ottawa with the city transforming into a colorful display of a million tulips. This is a great time for engagement photography with no shortage of scenic backdrops. We met Neera and Rakesh in downtown Ottawa on a beautiful spring evening for their engagement session. We started at Chateau Laurier and headed to Major Hill park for a leisurely stroll among the tulip displays.

With both Neera and Rakesh being medical students, they have a fair bit of studying to do all the time. So it made sense to head to Chapters on Rideau street for some creative bookstore photography after our fun time in the park This turned out to be a great idea as we captured some really cool shots there. Here are a few of our favorites from this session.

Ottawa Wedding Photographers | Kandid Weddings

Winter engagement sessions are unique…kissing and cuddling in the snow, making snow angels, and throwing snowballs;  romantic and playful at the same time. We met Sylvie and Steve on a chilly day in February for their engagement shoot in downtown Ottawa. It was perfect timing with freshly fallen snow transforming Ottawa into a winter wonderland.

Sylvie and Steve are a great fun-loving couple. We had so much fun walking around downtown and playing in the snow, stopping for hot chocolate at the cozy Oh So Good in the Byward market followed by a visit to the famous BeaverTails, and capturing some beautiful moments along the way! All in all a pretty awesome afternoon.

Sylvie and Steve, you guys are the real deal! Can’t wait for your spring wedding…

Ottawa Wedding Photographers | Kandid Weddings

Many couples choose to have their e-session in the spring or the fall as outdoor winter engagement shoots in Ottawa can be a little tricky given our weather.  However, once in a while you would meet a lovely couple like Sarah and James who, after getting engaged over Christmas, were ready to brave the cold for some refreshingly different shots in the snow; an opportunity we would not pass up.

We were lucky to have relatively mild temperatures and some fresh snow and decided to go for an afternoon walk around the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau. We all had a great time and some snow-filled fun and ended up with many more shots than we had planned.  Sarah and James, you guys are real troopers!

Our good friends Charlene and Guillaume got married in style at the Liberty Grand in downtown Toronto. We were attending as guests and tried to stay out of the way of the hired wedding photographers as much as possible. However, as passionate photographers we always carry some photography gear with us and this great occasion was no exception. We snapped a few photos at their lovely wedding ceremony and reception which we would love to share.

Even though we have seen our fair share of wedding ceremonies where sentiments run high, we were still surprised by this emotionally-charged couple and their families.

Honestly, we can’t imagine a first look moment getting anymore emotional than this. We all were so touched.

It’s not a secret we love candids during the ceremony…

We loved the elegant details of this purple-themed French-inspired reception.

Charlene and Guillaume are both great Salsa dancers (that’s actually how they met) and everyone enjoyed their fantastic performance at the reception.

Guests partied till early morning hours to the DJ’s great selection of international, French, Spanish, and even Persian music! We got to join in the fun by showcasing some Salsa moves and watched some world-class Flamenco performance by some talented guests.

This little guy had come all the way from France to celebrate his uncle’s wedding yet he showed no sign of jetlag. He partied all night and showed us a move or two.

We met Mach and Hieu on a beautiful morning at Parliament Hill in downtown Ottawa for their engagement shoot. This relaxed session took us from the parliament buildings to Chateau Laurier and Major’s Hill park. As engagement and wedding photographers we love this area of Ottawa as you can find all kinds of backdrops for a variety of photos.

We had such a lovely time with this great couple and look forward to shooting their wedding in a few weeks. Fun times ahead…
