We recently photographed a beautiful wedding at one of our favorite Ottawa wedding venues, the Strathmere Inn. We love everything about this venue from its historic architecture to its beautiful grounds, and the friendly professional staff. Add to that an incredibly warm and lovely couple like Annalee and Shawn and you have everything you need for creating something unique.

The weather forecast had us keep our umbrellas handy but it turned out to be a beautiful overcast day with no rain at all; making for a picture perfect outdoor ceremony. With lots of colorful spring blooms all over the grounds there was no shortage of scenic backdrops.

Congratulations Annalee and Shawn! We had a blast capturing your big day and sharing it with you and your wonderful friends and family.

Ottawa Wedding Photographers | Kandid Weddings

Every year in May, the world’s largest tulip festival takes place in Ottawa with the city transforming into a colorful display of a million tulips. This is a great time for engagement photography with no shortage of scenic backdrops. We met Neera and Rakesh in downtown Ottawa on a beautiful spring evening for their engagement session. We started at Chateau Laurier and headed to Major Hill park for a leisurely stroll among the tulip displays.

With both Neera and Rakesh being medical students, they have a fair bit of studying to do all the time. So it made sense to head to Chapters on Rideau street for some creative bookstore photography after our fun time in the park This turned out to be a great idea as we captured some really cool shots there. Here are a few of our favorites from this session.

A while back we posted photos from Heather and Jon’s chic wedding in Ottawa at the Orange Art Gallery. Their wedding was recently featured in the Kitchissippi Times along with some of our photos from their big day. Heather and Jon chose local Hintonburg and Westboro vendors for pretty much everything except the wedding photography, which made this wedding extra special for us.

With a civil ceremony based on principles of Buddhism, an intimate yet elegant art gallery reception, handmade decorations and wedding favors, and green centerpieces featuring plants from their backyard, everything about this wedding had a uniquely personal touch to it.

Congratulations again guys! It was a lot of fun capturing your big day with all that love shining through.

Ottawa Wedding Photographers | Kandid Weddings

Natasha and Will’s wedding day was grand and love-filled and we were lucky to be a part of their celebration. This has to be one of the most fun weddings we have ever witnessed. The wedding party and both families were easygoing and ready to have fun so the whole day just flowed seamlessly; giving us lots of great photo ops. The wedding ceremony was held at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Booth st. followed by wedding formals at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
The action-packed wedding reception was held at Palais des Congrès de Gatineau in Hull where Jeff from Quality Entertainment rocked the party till the early morning hours. There were even a number of special touches and surprises including a Harlem Shake and wrapping of the bride and groom together!
Tasha and Will, you guys make an awesome couple! Thank you for letting us share your joy and document your big day.
It was no easy task picking favorites from this wedding with all the great moments we captured. Hope this short post does the day justice.

Winter engagement sessions are unique…kissing and cuddling in the snow, making snow angels, and throwing snowballs;  romantic and playful at the same time. We met Sylvie and Steve on a chilly day in February for their engagement shoot in downtown Ottawa. It was perfect timing with freshly fallen snow transforming Ottawa into a winter wonderland.

Sylvie and Steve are a great fun-loving couple. We had so much fun walking around downtown and playing in the snow, stopping for hot chocolate at the cozy Oh So Good in the Byward market followed by a visit to the famous BeaverTails, and capturing some beautiful moments along the way! All in all a pretty awesome afternoon.

Sylvie and Steve, you guys are the real deal! Can’t wait for your spring wedding…

Many couples choose to have their e-session in the spring or the fall as outdoor winter engagement shoots in Ottawa can be a little tricky given our weather.  However, once in a while you would meet a lovely couple like Sarah and James who, after getting engaged over Christmas, were ready to brave the cold for some refreshingly different shots in the snow; an opportunity we would not pass up.

We were lucky to have relatively mild temperatures and some fresh snow and decided to go for an afternoon walk around the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau. We all had a great time and some snow-filled fun and ended up with many more shots than we had planned.  Sarah and James, you guys are real troopers!

Fall in Ottawa is short-lived yet it has to be one of our most favorite times of the year for engagement shoot sessions. As the peak wedding season passes colors of the fall peak and offer the perfect backdrop for romantic engagement photos.

We met Melissa and Mike on a mild fall afternoon in Gatineau Park for their e-session. We went for a relaxed stroll around Pink Lake, one of their favorite paths, and had no shortage of great photo ops while enjoying the colorful scenery. Melissa and Mike were a breeze to work with and seemed to enjoy their time as much as we did.

Ottawa Wedding Photographers | Kandid Weddings

We attended Teresa and David’s beautiful fall wedding a little while ago. Early fall is a great time for getting married here in Ottawa with the mild temperatures and colorful scenery. We met Teresa and her bridal party at Westin hotel in downtown Ottawa where she was getting ready in the penthouse suite with a breathtaking view of downtown and Ottawa river. The ceremony took place on a gorgeous private property overlooking the Rideau river with a fantastic view of the river and beautiful fall foliage.

After the ceremony we headed to the experimental farm ornamental gardens for some fun shots with the newlyweds and the bridal party. The colorful flowerbeds were complementing the autumn leaves and we ended up with many great shots before heading to the wedding reception at restaurant Eighteen (18) in the market.

We had such a hard time choosing our favorites from the day as we loved every photo that we came away with. This wedding was a real joy to be a part of. Thanks Teresa and David!

To say that the ceremony venue overlooking the Rideau river was beautiful is an understatement. The colorful fall foliage and the river provided the perfect backdrop for our ceremony coverage.

That’s one big heart! Everyone did a great job and we had a fun time bringing this idea to life.

Experimental farm’s ornamental gardens were impressive as usual. Add the fall colors which had just peaked to that and we had an amazing color palette to work with.

We stopped at the Museum of Civilization for a few portraits of Teresa and David with the Parliament Hill in the background before heading to Eighteen in the Byward market for their elegant reception.

We met Pai and Kenny at Mooney’s bay on a lovely breezy morning for their fall engagement shoot session. We were lucky as the fall colors had just peaked and we had the whole park to ourselves. We had an absolute blast with Pai and Kenny as we went for a stroll in the park and before no time ended up on the swings and slides in the playground.

This has to be one of the most fun and relaxed engagement shoots we have had. As the talented fashion designer behind DeMOYO label, Pai is used to working with photographers and directing models on a daily basis. However, we were still quite impressed by her comfort level in front of the camera. She’s such a natural and we’ve got photos to prove it.

We are super excited for their wedding next Spring. Fun times ahead…

Ottawa Wedding Photographers | Kandid Weddings

A while back we posted a sneak preview of Sylvie and Alain’s beautiful wedding in Rockland, just east of Ottawa. The weather was nice and sunny and we were lucky to have an outdoor ceremony venue overlooking the Ottawa river with a breathtaking view. After the ceremony and family photos we had a chance to shoot some  photos of the newlyweds as they went for a stroll in the beautiful grounds of Stoneriver.

Later on we had a great time shooting at the reception with the guests partying till the early morning hours. Definitely looking forward to shooting in the beautiful Rockland again some time. Here are a few of our favorite moments from the day…

Alain and the guys joking around and keeping it cool while waiting for the bride to arrive. We were impressed by Sylvie’s elegant black and white bouquet as well as the boutonnières and corsages, all designed and made by herself.

Alain likes muscle cars and red and black are his favorite colors. We took this photo of him and Sylvie in the Camaro SS before wrapping up the post-ceremony shots. Only had a couple minutes to set this up but we are happy with how it has turned out.
